When Guitar Czar closed its doors earlier this month, Utah’s guitar community felt a chord snap. For nearly three decades, the Salt Lake shop had been more than a store—it was a gathering place for players, techs, and dreamers.
Now, the same trusted hands that kept local instruments humming are striking a new note. The entire Guitar Czar repair team has regrouped and will reopen as an independent shop at 2212 South West Temple, Suite #8, with a grand opening on November 8.
“We’re keeping the heart of the shop alive,” says one of the longtime techs. “The sales floor may be gone, but the bench lights are back on.”
And yes—Captain Plekard is coming along, the shop’s state-of-the-art Plek machine beloved by pros and hobbyists alike. Players can expect the same high-caliber fretwork, setups, and repairs that defined Guitar Czar’s reputation across the Wasatch Front.
The new space will focus entirely on instrument care and restoration—from guitar and bass setups to electronics, refrets, nut and saddle work, and vintage instrument preservation. Walk-ins are welcome once the shop opens, and online scheduling will follow soon after.
“We’re sad to lose the incredible sales crew,” the techs shared in a post, “but we’ll honor them by keeping the shop running.”
For local musicians, it’s a relief: the team that knew their instruments best isn’t gone—they’ve just moved down the road.
